Thank you all for your patience. Development of the vibration plate has been successfully completed. We regret that, due to a slight delay in the production process, shipping will begin one week later than planned. The result, however, is good, and your patience will prove worthwhile. We will make a separate announcement when shipping officially begins.
First, regarding the sound quality that concerns you most: our test results show that, in terms of the fundamental characteristics of the sound, essentially no difference can be heard. This was also the goal we had established, and we are pleased to have achieved this result.
In addition, we made the following design changes:
1. Addresses the problem of uneven volume between high and low notes
In the original version, the comb’s vibration-damping plate extended slightly beyond the front end of the comb, causing the side effect of uneven volume between high and low notes (the closer a cylinder pin is to the front end of the comb, the louder the note played). In the new version, we shortened the comb length for specific notes, thereby compensating in reverse for the extra distance introduced by the vibration-damping plate. Consequently, all notes are ultimately at the same distance from the cylinder pins, and the volume is even.
2. Anti-vibration plate: note count 11 -> 12 -> 11
Originally, on the N40, only the 11 lowest notes of each 20-note comb were fitted with damping plates; the new version adds damping plates to the 12th note as well. However, actual small-batch testing revealed that the risk of tuning failure on the 12th note was too high, so after discussing with Kyooh, we reverted to 11 notes. The N40 will therefore have a total of 22 notes fitted with damping plates. (Note: The damping plates mitigate the metallic friction noise caused by consecutive strikes.)
3 Pre-order exclusive badge: Together With ♯ Gen.1
The smooth mass production of the first batch of N40 vibration plates means a great deal to us. We intentionally placed a dedicated mark, Together With ♯ Gen.1, incorporating both a craftsmanship upgrade and our sincere gratitude:
- TW (Together With｜Made in Taiwan, With You in Sincerity) Taken from the initial letters of Together With, it stands for 100% locally processed and manufactured in Taiwan; it also expresses our gratitude for “being with you.” Going forward, we will continue to accompany you in your daily life with our next-generation Smart Music Box.
- ♯ (Sharp｜Range Upgrade and #1 First-Generation Commemoration) The mark incorporates the sharp symbol from musical notation, signifying that the N40’s range and arrangement flexibility far surpass those of the N20; visually, it also evokes the image of the “#” sign. Combined with Gen.1, it represents No.1 Generation—the milestone of the first batch produced by the first generation.
